Our Book A Berth clients are a very mixed bunch.
Happily for us, they are a very likeable bunch, too.
Maybe it’s sailing in general that attracts
thoughtful, balanced, sociable people. Our kind of sailing
certainly does. More than a few real friendships (and one
or two romances) have resulted from our trips.
To look at it another way: In the six years we have been
running these events, we have had only one client who
we’ve not wanted to see on board again. He
doesn’t get our emails, and happily hasn’t
pestered us to do more sailing.
But if you’re looking for reassurance about who
you’ll be sharing your cabin with, you probably want
to know something more specific. So what more can we tell
you? Well ...
We attract more men than women, but most crews include at
least a couple of women and occasionally the numbers are
evenly balanced.
The age range goes from mid-teens to 50s - though
16-year-old Liam is, we admit, less typical of our
clientele than his greying dad (sorry, Rowan). The average
age, probably, is thirtysomething going on 40.
Discover Yachting clients aside, our typical client is a
Day Skipper or thereabouts – someone who knows how to
sail but wants to develop their skills and experience in a
more exciting and yet more relaxed setting than a sailing
school. (We have had crews consisting entirely of Day
Skippers.) But we also have clients with very little
experience, and others of Yachtmaster standard.
We get people from all walks of life. Not surprisingly,
they are generally fairly well heeled, and don’t need
to count the pennies when the time comes to choose a
restaurant ashore. But neither we nor our guests are
inclined to extravagance, either, and the restaurant chosen
is often a pub or a curry house. Quite a few of our sailors
run their own businesses.
