Naturally, you want to be sure that you're not
going to be out of your depth. So do we! Here is some
guidance.
You don’t have to be an experienced sailor to join
the crew of one of our yachts, whether cruising or racing,
though you do have to be prepared to stay at sea for
anything up to 24 hours – there’s no turning
back (unless a gale blows up). In practice, you’d be
foolish to sign up for most of our events without a bit of
experience in a yacht at sea (and the Solent doesn’t
count as going to sea). On the other hand, there is a first
time for everyone, so don't be put off if you think you are
ready to take the plunge.
The crew will normally include people with a range of
experience. Normally, but not invariably, we put an
experienced mate on the boat as well as a skipper. If the
crew includes people who would be able to operate the boat
without the skipper’s help, we might go without a
mate.
